Growing sweet peas as cordons - pinch out?

Apologies for what is probably an obvious question... I am going to try growing some of my sweat peas as cordons this year, presumably I DO NOT pinch out the growing tip as usual?
Thanks :)

  • I had a couple of plants left over and so I am trying to treat them as a cordon. I'll leave the growing tip but pinch out side shoots.
Got the idea from the garden at Ightam Mote last May. The gardeners were very helpful!

  • That's great, thank you - and the garden is stunning! Are you just going to let the cordons grow as high as the canes, or then take down and layer? Mine grow on a wigwam so wasn't sure I could manage that part.
  • I'd love to say that that is my garden but it isn't! That's the cordon sweet peas at Ightam Mote in Kent that I saw last year.
With my 'experiment' I will let them grow as high as they want to go, or until they get to the top of my tallest canes!

  • Great, same to what I'm planning then - fingers crossed for both of us!
