What type of flowers do you think these are?

Two possibles that spring to my mind are Schizanthus and Penstemons.
Do you know when the painting was done? Schizanthus were very popular with amateur gardeners who had a greenhouse in the first half of the 20C.

It was done in 1979. I did it at school in Essex and imagine the flowers must have come from somebody's garden. Maybe Penstemons.

The stems look very thick for penstemons

The flowers look very much like penstemon. Maybe the leaves are made up. It happens😉

No, I just wanted a name for the picture.
I'll go with Penstemons. It's quite possible that I only paid attention to the flowers and just made up the rest.
