Is my Dicksonia Antartica OK?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little advice about my Dicksonia Anartica, it's looking quite sad! I got it last summer and it was green and healthy. I overwintered with straw and tied up the fronds. A couple of fronds broke off during the winter but it seemed to be fine when I untied it. However, in the last few days, I've noticed that the fronds are dying off. Does anyone know if this is normal? Or is it in danger of dying? Thanks in advance

I would imagine it's getting ready to push out new fronds. Are hard lumps (new fronds tightly furled) developing down at the base of the old fronds?

Hi WillDB, yes I think you might be right, there seems to be a few lumps down at the base of the others. Panic over! They're such an amazing tree, and quite the show-stopper in the front garden. I really don't want to kill it! :)
  • Hello, We have a Dicksonia and your one looks fine to me. It may lose some fronds from being out during the winter but it will produce new growth in due course. Just keep it moist. - Annie
