Is my wisteria dead?

I bought my Wisteria in June last year and it grew right over the top of my pergola.it is an Ito Koke Riu variety, which is late flowering.  However, as you can see by the picture, I have no leaves at all at the moment.  I have scratched a little of the bark off and is appears to be green underneath. However, I am concerned that there is no sign of life.

    Hi,
I am no expert but I will tell you about my wisteria experience.  I bought one for about £2 from either Wilko or Aldi it grew for about ten years before it flowered two years running.  The stem was about 5 inches in girth so it was pretty substantial.  I had to get a man to fix the pergola that it was growing on and the following year it appeared dead.  I scratched away at the  bark and it was brown beneath.  I reluctantly sawed it down to about a foot off the ground and noticed "wet" wood so I decided not to dig it up.  The following year lots of little green shoots appeared and I was so happy.  I trained one up the pergola thinking that it would be another ten years to flower. That would have been 2016.  Anyhow, I have had flowers this year!  If you are in no rush I would suggest that you try this method as the root may still be alive.  You won't lose anything by trying....

You can see the old stump to the right in the picture.

I think i may have discovered the problem. It would appear that the base of the plant has been chewed by something. I suspect my stepdaughter’s dog. I will give it another couple of weeks, just in case, but if no joy I’ll cut it right down to the ground and hope for recovery next year.
