The Pentland hills over in the east [the dark side...] are covered in it, but fortunately, it's fairly easy to avoid when schlepping around on them  ;)

A wee tweet - yes @philippa smith2 - I wouldn't have a clue about it either, so I'd need to leave it to the best tweeters on earth   :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I like to see it colonising and brightening up the motorway embankments around here, but I wouldn't want it in the garden (it'd probably grow spectacularly well though).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Some notes on growing gorse from Burncoose. I think I would grow the Flore Pleno variety if I was going to have it.

  • Ah yes  the double flower one that smells nice.

There is a site that is selling them at £3.50. Postage is £6.95, but whatever else you add to the order the postage does not increase. That seems fair enough. A good system if a few people are ordering together.

The site was showing 'out of stock' but I have phoned the guy and he has got them. Just been very busy and is going to update the site.

I think it is great when you can simply phone a nursery and they make time for you. Very helpful chap.

My husband asked me to grow gorse. He loves the fragrance (and I like it too). It's everywhere around but he would like to have one in the garden, to have one of his own which he can smell anytime when it's in bloom. A bit crazy but I love him :)

I think it is good that your husband can derive pleasure from the scent of the Gorse. I'm like that with Wallflowers.
