My olive tree isn’t happy

Can anyone offer any advice. I had to move my 3 year old thriving 7ft olive tree from a sunny spot, as building work started and access was needed where it was planted. I put it in a pot in a shady spot but when it started to go dry I replanted it in the front which is another sunny spot. It still looks dry two weeks later. Have watered it regularly and pruned a little. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you.

If possible, post a photo of it now. You mentioned you pruned it a bit but I imagine anything 7 ft in height will need a lot of care when lifted and may not settle easily in any new surroundings.

Watering is essential, and lots of it because the weather’s been pretty dry and warm the last month. If it’s temporary you can keep it somewhere shady so it’s not so stressed.
  • Hi. Thank you. It was looking lovely but a week in the pot in shade and the leaves went dry. Here is a pic of it now planted and trimmed a little. We cut off the shoots going straight up on advice from a website about olive trees.

I think it looks fine there, but only you can tell by the colour of leaves. If they turn a bronze to brown tone, the leaves have died. Keep watering throughout the summer months. Deep generous watering into the base. The roots need to settle down and work its way down into the new soil. Hopefully, new signs of life will show on the branches very soon.
  • Thank you. Will do. Some of the lower leaves look a bit brown now but the rest are still green.
