What is this?

Noticed this the other night growing  wild whilst out a walk, love the big leaves on it.
Anyone know what it is, is it invasive?

Think it's called lords and ladies but can't remember the correct name
  • Arum italicum pictum. Apparently it can be invasive, but in my clay soil it is perfectly well behaved.

Stupid question, is it a weed? And would it be safe to put in my garden?

it's a " wild flower" . TBH I'd put up with it in my garden, but I'd not introduce it.
    Devon.

Can I ask why? I don't have anything planted in my garden yet but won't bother if it's going to cause any problems further down the line.

it can be a bit invasive. Fine if you've got room to let to romp. It's only really there now, then dies down later. The fruiting bodies are poisonous, but so are rhubarb leaves.
    Devon.
  • Grab some of that wild garlic and don't introduce arums to your garden. The little bulblets go quite sweep and they find lots of annoying nooks and crannies to pop up out of. Have dug up quite a few this Spring...so am biased 😉

I love them but they’re not really suitable for a ‘normal’ garden as they are very invasive. If you have a couple of acres and a wildlife-style garden they’d be great.
There is a more ‘ornamental’ variety https://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/arum-italicum-subsp-italicum-marmoratum/

And yes ... those little white flowers are wild garlic ‘Ramsons’

we had wild garlic pesto on our pasta for supper last night 😋
