Creeping thyme in path cracks

Has anyone had success growing creeping thyme in path cracks?  I thought all l needed to do was fill the path cracks with seedling compost and then sprinkle seeds.  My packet of seeds has just turned up (thymus serphyllum) and the recommendation on the back is to sow indoors.  Not sure what to do now!  The path is mostly in full sun.  Any advice gratefully received 👍

Chiltern seeds says "Can be sown directly from May into well prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Broadcast sow, press seeds lightly into the soil but do not cover. Water until germinated".

Personally I would also sow some in a tray where they can be covered with a propagator lid or clear plastic to keep the moisture in until germinated, as back up.
