Hello, I have a few of these randomly in the garden, but would like swathes of them under a few trees next year. The only problem is, I can’t work out what they are. Does anyone know, please?
They look like rather rain battered Hyacinthoides hispanica...common name Spanish bluebells. Which come in blue or pink or white. Rather a thug. Very hard to get rid of them once you have them.
Oh, sounds like it’d be wiser to go for something else. Pity, as they’re very pretty. But thank you for both the ident and the advice, will start the hunt for something else - there’s so much choice I find it almost daunting. C

Oh excellent. I think everyone here will approve of your decision. Thank you.
Summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) might give a similar look, although it flowers a bit earlier (mine are just going over now, hastened by the warm dry weather we've had recently).
They look a lot like what the locals here call wild garlic but which Brits call 3 cornered leek. Check the flower stem and see if it's triangular. The flowers and leaves certainly look like the stuff I've been nurturing.
Spanish bluebells are generally taller and larger and have more flowers per stem and strappier leaves.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Allium triquetium are very different. A triangular stem..on the top from a single place ....a fountain of white flowers with a green stripe.
OK but mine are definitely like the OP's picture and have no green strip and a vague garlicky smell but not as strong as ransomes. I have been experimenting with some in a pot with one of my hostas and it's the only one not chewed by the voracious Vendéen snails! I shall be increasing it as fast as possible.

The Organic Gardening Catalogue and other reputable suppliers can sell you native bluebells, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, which will self-seed and gradually fill the space under your trees, though they don't spread themselves around as recklessly as the Spanish bluebells. You need to dig deep to get those out.

Sadly they cross pollinate the true Hyacinthoides non-scripta...common bluebell, much loved in British woods...which is dainty and scented.
