Follow the instructions on the packet. Don't start until the beginning of May then plant out seedlings at the start of June.
  • Hi, I am trying to use beans from last year, do I need to soak first ?.

Hi @frankbuckle1 and welcome to the forum 😊

This shows you the basics https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-runner-beans/

If anything’s not clear just ask ... I’m going to sow mine in little pots indoors this week.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Ah, no packet then. No need to soak but maybe pot up a few more seeds than you think you need - germination rate may be lower if the beans weren't fully ripe and dry before storage.

Sow according to where you live, I live in South Wales near the coast mine sown in pots a few weeks back, are now ready to be planted out, sticks are up and as soon as the rain stops they will be planted, I have kept seed from the previous years crop for many years to good effect.

Again, Frank, you didn't say where you are which is all important.  Here in W Cork, Ireland, I grew mine in trays under a sheet of glass, all from last year's seed as always, and they've been planted out for a week now.  We have a very mild climate here but, if you're in a colder area, you'll need to wait a couple of weeks.
