If you can't give them the conditions they require, it's a very short list of tulips, apart from the species ones, that will perform on a regular basis. They aren't all short though. T. praestans 'Fusilier' is taller. Bright orange, and great for some early colour.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Hi @yorkshirerose Are those figures you give meant to be the depth at which each tulip cultivar ought to be planted? If so, what unit are you using? inches? centimetres?
I have a clump of Carnival de Rio tulips in my front garden that has been there 8 years. They are planted deeply in my clay soil but flower beautifully each year. They start white and as they age red streaks appear and they end up completely red. The flowers last for ages. I also have White Emperor tulips planted the same year that reliability returns each spring.
Does that mean I'd be wasting time and money trying to grow them in clay soil?
By no means lilysilly has hers planted in clay and my soil I clay. The only thing I do to my clay soil under the bulb is mix with a bit of grit to help drainage and as said already plant them deeply.
