Plant ID

Please can anyone identify this plant for me? I bought it for 50p eight years ago, as a sad rescue. There was a label, no name, but said it was a foliage plant that doesn't flower. I needed to fill a space so nurtured it, then put it in the ground and now it must be at least 15ft. high and has started flowering as you can see. Any ideas???

I think you have picked up a gem there. Looks like a Drimys Winteri shrub/tree. Do the flowers smell? These plants in the right conditions get very tall.
  • Thanks I have always given sad looking plants a chance. i love this one and yes it keeps growing upwards. There is no scent from the flowers but they are magnificent.
  • I have found a very good photo of Drimys Winteri and I think I have the answer. Thank you very much Borderline for your knowledgeable  help.
