Birch, probably Betula pendula 'Youngii' that has had all it's weeping branches trimmed back.

If you want a naturally ball on a stick shaped tree, Acer platanoides 'Globosum' grows like that without having to be trimmed!

  • I love all the 3 trees on here...think they look good without taking over. Thanks for the id and also the tip re Acer platanoides 'Globosum'
  • Hexagon...you are dead right, i couldnt go back to first one, so saw what i thought was same and photo’d that. Oops!
  • Thanks Hexagon, ijust love the formality of the look of clipped trees...it makes me feel like things are under control (even when they are not!)

If you want the correct id of tree.
Please can you take more pics of the tree.
    Less trunk...more leaves.

  • Silver Surfer...yes , i will try and do better. I have been ‘allowed’ a twice weekly run in the car as a passenger and so have ran out when i saw the tree, took a quick snap, before anyone came near and jumped back in the car again!. I shall try and judge my timings so the pavements are really quiet for when i go next.
