this grows in our garden every year and i’d love to get more.

    Peony? Wouldn't know what it's called though  :)

    It's a herbaceous peony.  That type dies back completely to the ground in the winter.  The other type to consider are tree peonies which produce woody stems so can also provide some height if needed.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
