Climbing hydrangea advice

We planted one of these about 18 months ago. It’s growing well but not yet clinging to the wall. Do I need to do or can I do anything to encourage it to cling or does this start as it matures?

    We have 4 and have only ever had a cane for them to climb up to the wall, only 3ft or so. Once near to the wall the cling on brilliantly

    Ours is on a cane and leans in very close to the wall but doesn’t seem to have started to cling yet. Maybe I am been too impatient 🤔

    So I have limited experience but they usually cling really well once they get going. You could make some fixings to help it along but it shouldn't be needed. They slow growers but once established they grow fast and do get a real hold.
