Saxifrage gone brown in the middle

I have a saxifrage carpet white that has gone brown in he middle.  I have read that the plant can be divided to make new plants.  When should I do this please?

    Mossy saxifrages don't like too much sun and hate getting dry so this weather is tough on them. I normally propagate saxifrages in late summer or early autumn after the worst of the heat has passed. I've found they self seed very easily though and I've got them springing up in various pots around the garden now.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
