Japanese Cedar -cryptomeria

I have two of these trees which are currently in planters. I know they are hardy but I lost one last year which turned copper. I would welcome any tips on keeping them in top shape!

One is also looking less bright green than the other one.

They need a lot of moisture if they're in containers. Once they dry out and go brown, that's it.
    Same as all conifers.
They need a soil based medium as well - compost alone is no use.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Find the dampest part of the garden and plant out, planted one 10 years ago and still only just over 2 metres,is it the christata

Thanks. I don't think its a christata but an image is attached. Not sure I have many options to plant in the garden so would like to carry in with the containers if possible.
Above the root ball I have multi pupose compost with john innes so not sure what I should add to that or how best to change things in the container to maximise my chances
