Morning glory

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
My four turn of the century morning glory ( not one of the the fancy varieties) seeds germinated and now I'm feeling all precious about them. I put them out for an airing during the day and put them in the porch at night.
Ive thrown away the packet, so I havent a clue what to do.
Theyre in four corners of a plastic supermarket fruit container. Plenty of room at the moment.
Should I eventually put them in individual pots or straight into the ground?
When it it safe to leave them out at night?
I'm assuming being a relative of bindweed, they don't need rich soil. Am I right?

There was a similar question a little while back relating to putting them outside, and them not liking the cold.

I've not grown them to flower so can't advise on the other queries.

Checked out the link. Keep them in until June and don't let them get tangled up.
The funny thing is, the last time I grew them, back in the noughties, I didnt realise they were so fussy and  they grew fine.
    * Spoiler alert* Wasn't there a Morse or some other detective programme involving morning glory?

I would say pot them on and wait for another couple of weeks before hardening them off. They like it warm.

My morning glories have been growing in the same pot for at least 6 years.  They flower, grow seed, they drop some of it inside the pot and then they die.  The following spring germinate.  I never knew they were supposed to be difficult.  Now that I know, I will save some seed, just in case....

And here are this year's gifts.  Hopefully, they will survive again!  There are some other seedlings in there too.  I don't know, as yet, what they are, most likely weeds!

Possibly as it tends to be a few degrees warmer here but I’ve never had problems growing them and they self seed like crazy if you let them. If they get over fed you get loads of beautiful leaves and few flowers so don’t treat them too well!
