How many seeds in the pkt?

I am guessing 'non-commerial' sellers of seeds use scales. The type that weigh in grams.

Initially counting 100 for example, and seeing how many grams that weighs. Then working from that. Obviously not all seed types weigh the same. Just curious. What do you think?

Something I've wondered about on occasion.
What amazes me is buying a packet of 10 petunia seeds.
The packet appears to be empty, but I usually get petunias.
How on earth do they count 10 seeds each the size of a bit of dust?

  • That is an interesting point that you make there Pete, regarding the Petunias.

As you say, it does make one wonder how they pick the seeds up. Maybe they scoop a few up on the end of a small spoon,  then use a hair grip for example to knock the suplus off until they reach 10 seeds. I'd have a struggle seeing them. 😁

They certainly won't be doing it outdoors.

I recall several packets I had from T&M of petunias where the seeds were not even in an inner packet. I just opened the pack carefully over the compost and tapped. They always came up - usually in clumps

Then there's the ones with 1000 seeds. Who'd want that many and who'd count them anyway?
Something to pass the time, I suppose. Not that desperate yet, but getting there😕
