Help me identify this beautiful shrub

DevonianDevonian Posts: 176
I'm trying to identify this beautiful shrub which is in a corner of our drive. As you can see, it seems to be doing very well in this shady spot (doesn't get much sun as there's a large conifer just to the right) - just a bit of dappled sunlight through the day.

The flowers have a lovely fragrance which can be smelt right across the drive in the mornings and evenings! I'm thinking of propagating this by layering as it has several low-growing branches.

Many thanks!

The Mexican Orange Blossom is supposedly evergreen, is yours?

Yes it is, sorry should have mentioned that. Quite surprised it's growing so well in that shady spot but I'll take cuttings and have more growing in the back garden hopefully!

What a shame Hexagon. We moved in to this place last year so I'm afraid I don't know the secret to it's fine health.

A bit of shade is far better for them. It's obviously very happy there @Devonian.
If you get enough rainfall, which I expect you do, it won't be too badly affected by the proximity of the conifer either.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

This is a Choisya ternate. You can propagate from 3" cuttings taken in August but I am not sure about layering. If you try it you have nothing to lose. Perhaps when you do it you might try cutting a small nick in the bark on the underside of where you want it to root. Good luck.

Thanks Fairygirl! I guess the fact that it's growing nicely proves that point   And yes, we get slightly below average rainfall for England and one of the highest sunshine levels so it's a pretty good mix for growing!

    Thanks for your help
