Ceanothus Issues

Hi everyone,
Last year my Ceanothus bloomed fine, but when the flowers faded, they remained there in a strange mummified black state. I hoped that perhaps these dead parts would drop off, but they haven't. This has never happened before. I don't know which variety exactly the Ceanothus is, but it blooms in the summer and has light blue flowers. It will take a long time to cut off all of these dead parts. What should I do? Thank you in advance for taking a look.

    Mine behave the way you have described every year. Occasionally if I've got time on my hands I'll snip off some of last years dead flower stems and heads but that's just for aesthetics. Yours looks perfectly normal to me.
