Sleeper garden border

Can someone help please. I have just built a garden border behind sleepers, they are 2ft wide and in an L shape, length is 14ft x 27ft so need quite a few plants. They are in the shade for most of the day until mid afternoon when they get full sun. I really don’t know too much and would like to know which plants, shrubs etc would be good and would thrive and are quite easy to look after. I want perennial and evergreen so that there is something all year round and I want it to be quite colourful.

Whichever plants you choose, try to avoid them growing over the surface of the sleepers (such as trailing plants).  This will create a damp environment for mould to grow, and will increase the likelihood of them rotting.  We learned this too late, to our cost.
