Thanks Fairygirl. They are in very sunny position and have been there longer than two newer ones which have numerous stems. What I meant by 'leggy' is there are only about two long stems on each with nothing else coming off. They have been like this since I got them and am wondering if it could be anything to do with the planting depth. I will see how they go this year.
They need to be planted quite high - the crown needs to be near the soil surface. If you have heavy ground like I do , you can keep them almost exposed. They also need to be well fed. They should produce several new stems each year until they're fully mature. Are there lots of other plants nearby? They might be a bit crowded.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
