What is this disease

Please can anyone tell me what has happened to my 25 year old Cotoneaster? it started new spring growth however everything is now browning and shrivelling and the leaves are dying. Not sure it can be saved but would like to know what it could be. It is 6 ft high by 8ft wide

Cotoneasters are susceptible to fireblight - if twigs are dying back, with scorched-looking leaves, this might be te cause.  On the other hand, it could be something less terminal... is there mildew on those leaves?  Have you noticed any bugs?  Is the soil very dry?

Hi thank you for your reply , so no mildew on the leaves and have noticed no bugs. it has always been a dry spot and in the height of summer is in semi shade of a old cooking apple tree that died last autumn
