Allotment advice for a newbie please

We have just got an allotment but can’t currently get any seeds,plants or tools. Can any one offer any advice on what we can get on with thanks jan

    If you have a local free ad paper or an on line facility that covers your area - I think FridayAd may do both - they often have a 'Wanted' section where you could ask for what you want?

    Talk to your fellow allotment holders, they may have spare seeds, plants or even spare tools you can borrow short-term. Observing appropriate social distance and cleaning them before use and before you hand them back, of course. You can ask their advice about what you need if you are not sure and then order any tools and such you need online. Seeds are tricky at the moment, with a backlog of orders from online companies, such as The Organic Garden Catalogue, Chilterns, Suttons etc., but worth a shot, especially for veg that can be planted later, such as brassicas for winter. Try contacting local garden centres as well, to see if they are doing deliveries.

    What you can do now depends on the state of the allotment, it may need digging over, weeding, bramble clearing etc., so all those things can be done to prepare the ground, tools permitting of course.

    Ask for seed and plant donations from your fellow allotmenteers, they are usually very generous people and will have planted more than they need "just in case". Tools should be available mail order if there are no shops around you and all you need to start would be a spade and fork.

    Seeds are readily available at Morrisons and the Range.  Still not to late for seed potatoes in Wilko or Home Bargain.

    Tools also readily available at the Range, Wilko, Home Bargain and B&M bargains.

    All of the above shops sell ‘essential’ products and you can therefore purchase other non-essential items at the same time....  well within current guidelines.

    Now get cracking and you will be feeding yourself in no time
