Tree suitable for potting

Can anyone suggest a small tree or shrub suitable for a container for a North East facing corner of my house in Edinburgh. It needs to be hardy, suitable for shade and be able to withstand wind. Ideal height 1.5 meter. Thank you!

    Acer Palmatum 'Orange Dream'

Not my tree below, but I had one in a large pot for years (and it always looked healthiest in shade) I finally planted it into the ground 3 weeks a go in a shady border.

Leaves are orange in spring, green in summer and yellow in autumn.

I was going to suggest an acer palmatum of some kind but I thought they didn't like windy positions and need somewhere sheltered.
You're right, I didn't see the wind part.

Wind kills them really fast so ignore my original suggestion. How big is the pot?

Birch look nice in pots and they usually stay smaller. Plenty variations to choose from with interesting bark. Most do ok in shade.

You'd still need a very large pot.
