I'm glad your story had a good outcome @PurpleRose, would have been a shame if the statue was gone forever. You kind of feel like you have to stay one step ahead of the thieves all the time and can't have anything nice around you. I've literally just been out and put the wheel barrow in the garage now, it was in a shed full of grass clippings but hearing your story made me think they would probably take that too....

I keep the whole front garden devoid of baskets, containers and 'things'.

I live in a really rural area now, but got accustomed to anything that was not nailed down being stolen when I lived in London.

I now keep anything that can be picked up out the back and out of sight of the public.

Shame as I had a nice display of layered bulbs this spring in 3 containers, that I would have loved to have put out to cheer up people like postie who are still working in these strange times, love to do baskets, but only the family and myself ever get to see it.

We've had more than one wheelie bin go for a walk here also.

I have a couple of friends who have had people go to the effort of digging plants out of their borders and taking them!

Wow @GemmaJF, if people start digging up my garden I'll be investing in some CCTV cameras! Or a dog haha!
But yes, I know what you're saying, you feel you can't have anything nice around you unless it's out of people's eyes but sometimes you just want to display that lovely pot of flowers for the world to see :) Shame really...

The builder left his wheelbarrow in our garden when lockdown started.  It's not there any more... he came to collect his dumper, so I hope he took the barrow away at the same time - I didn't notice when it disappeared.

My grandfather had an allotment in Walthamstow before WW2.  He learnt the value of growing unusual-looking veg (purple podded peas, for instance) because so much easily-recognised produce was stolen.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I'm sorry you get to join this club of folks that have tried to make the front of their home nice for the benefit of all, to find that one individual was so impressed by your efforts that they took it home for themselves.
    Me too!
Very large planter full of bulbs and compost out for less than twelve hours before it was carried off. I now have a tall gate, a beautiful  BACK garden and a thorny rose perimeter! Lesson learned.

Sorry for the loss of your plants kasjk, Acers are beautiful and expensive plants, but are a particular magnet for thieves as a result, one for the back garden only, sadly.

@Nollie I have for sure learnt my lesson. Luckily I bought it for only £4 from Homebase but even so, that wasn't really the point. I'll just have to go get myself a new one and keep it out of sight to other people.

Someone dug up a row of 12 conifers from my front garden in a previous house.  They had been in about 2 weeks.  When I came out of the house I knew something was different but it took a few minutes to realise what it was.  My face must have been a picture when the penny dropped.

@Yviestevie you live not far from where I used to live, Amblecote. I can't believe someone stole a hedge, we actually discussed it this morning whether to put in a hedge or not but I said it might get stolen! The cheek of some people! I don't know how they have the guts to do it.

They take the attitude that if it is left out, it is theirs. I hope nobody steals my new yew hedge, about the only thing that is out the front, the plants are just starting to perk up a little after feeling a bit sorry for themselves.
