Just for reference this Gentle Hermione is about 2.5 years old. It’s now about 4.5’ across and the fence behind is a standard 6’. It hasn’t been pruned at all as I wanted to see how it developed naturally. Bit wonky on one side but we’ll see how it goes this year.

I’m enjoying this discussion about planting density, interesting to hear different people’s approaches.

I have a new rose bed, with 8-10 roses in pots ready to plant in a few weeks. I can’t tell you the dimensions of the bed as it’s tricky to measure, being very curvy and irregular. I am going to er on the safe side and give them generous space, infilling with perennials. I can always add more roses later, on the basis it’s easier to dig up perennials and plant them elsewhere. I do dig up and relocate the odd rose, but in my heavy soil, I find it is pretty hard work and a bit of a faff!

Omori, I moved mine, to what should be a more favourable position, and if it ends up growing like yours in the picture I will be very pleased. At the moment though it's just half a dozen twigs in the ground but with new growth beginning to show.
