Lilac tree pruned in April

Hi. Hope you are well and keeping safe. My husband has accidentally cut the branches off our lilac tree before it has flowered. Any advice will it grow again. Can I do anything with the clusters of buds. Look forward to hearing from you Regards and blessings to you

Advise to keep the husband away from the pruners

I don't think it will flower but doubt it will do any harm and will flower again next year.
