Novice question...

2 weeks ago I repotted 2 phormium and a red robin that I had purchased. They were repotted in pots that I put decent drainage in with used brand new compost and they seemed to thrive.

The last week they are all really drooping and look to be struggling. As a novice I’m wondering if there is something I need to do? I have kept them watered but certainly not overwatered. Is there anything I need to do to make them look great again? Thanks in advance

  • Any tips at all appreciated as I really don’t want to lose these so soon if im
doing something wrong. They all get 3-4 hours of sun per day and I’m at a loss what could be wrong. Thanks in advance
  • You say you potted them in USED potting compost, I know compost is not easy to obtain at the moment but I feel the plants would of been better in fresh compost.
Also I would move them into the shade until they recover.
lastly did you buy them from a reliable source?

Sorry, it was brand new compost, it wouldn’t let me edit! They came from a very reputable establishment that have beautiful walled gardens and don’t usually sell to the public.
I will move them to the shade but really at a loss what the problem is. They started so well!

Did you have a frost just after re-potting?
The dead leaves on the red robin I'm guessing were new and bright red. If they got nipped by frost it may have killed off the tender new leaves.
The best plan is to keep them sheltered but in good light, keep the compost just moist and see what happens over the next few weeks. Hopefully they'll both recover and you'll start to see new growth appear. Then you can cut off the dead bits.

  • They were only purchased and repotted 14 days ago when in perfect health so no frost damage at all. Thanks for the advice, I will move them to a sheltered spot and keep my fingers crossed.

    Over fertilised perhaps?
