Japanese anemone

gardenman91gardenman91 Posts: 429
Hello everyone

So I’ve just emptied a small pot which had what I thought was a dying Japanese anemone, it had no growth on top. However when I checked the roots there was one thick root with 3 or 4 buds on it, all on one side. I actually threw it away as I didn’t think it would do anything, was I right to do this? 😬

Possibly.  I would have been inclined to repot it up in fresh compost and a slightly bigger pot and see what happened. Depends on whether you like them and if you've got loads already. One word of warning though, they can be rampant spreaders by underground runners so you need lots of room!

    Hi Lizzie

I love them! It was a smaller variety. I guess I just had one of those impatient moments 😂

That's a shame. It's always worth repotting something if you like it.
The smaller types are usually better behaved. It also depends on your soil and conditions.
They all behave well here, although some people find the pink ones are more inclined to world domination  ;)
