Yellow leaves on skimmia

Dirty HarryDirty Harry Posts: 1,048
I have 3 potted skimmia and all have yellowing of the leaves but are flowering and appear ok otherwise.

All are potted in a mix of ericacious compost and JI2 or 3. Two of them were probably getting too much sun so I've moved them to a wall facing NE- although this is where the third one has always been yet still has yellowing.

If this additional shade doesn't help, what else can I try? Fed with an azalea feed last week.

One furthest left has always been against this wall-

    *Bump*  :)
  • When did you repot them last ? The pots look quite small for the plants.
  • According to this thread, too much water can cause it, and Epsom salts might help cure it.

I'd agree with @Chrissy the gardener.
They aren't really ideal as potted plants long term either. If you can't plant them out, it would be better to get some much larger containers, or create a big purpose built bed for them.
Skimmias can get to a decent size in the right situation, so if you can provide them with that, it'll help  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I only got the 2 larger ones early last spring and these pots were a good size up from their originals. Can easily look to get bigger pots though- no room in the ground.

The smaller one is Rubella and hasn't yet filled that small container.
