Improvising with household items - egg boxes
Hello all
I'm using attempting to plant some seeds included with May's gardeners world magazine. But having never tried this before and unable to leave the home I'm having to improvise with available household items. Thankfully I do have some compost.
The zinnia seeds require trays with separate cells of compost. Would cardboard egg boxes work for this?
Also the echinacea and cosmos seeds require a glass cover or propagate lid, is this essential or is there some mind of improvised work around I could use?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Joanne

windowsills ... and most people still have a plastic bottle lurking somewhere ... this way it is reusable. I’ve used the same Diet Coke bottle for watering my tomato seedlings for four years

@joannekentsmith for starting seeds, yoghurt pots, margarine cartons, milk cartons..........just put drainage holes in the bottom, then wrap with clingfilm instead of using glass.......good luck with it
Ouch! Sorry for you, @Dovefromabove Hope you recover soon.

I'm really cheap though, plastic milk bottle with tiny holes drilled in the screw on lid. It even has a handle included!

They make good scoops for things with a bit of careful cutting too.
