Evergreen Clematis

in Tools and techniques
A friend helping in the garden inadvertently cut down an evergreen clematis to an inch above the soil. It has not produced any shoots. Is it dead?

    Which variety of evergreen clematis is it and how long ago did your friend chop it down to the ground?

    It was Armandii and it was cut down last summer. I keep peering to see if there is any growth.

    Mine got destroyed by the fence falling on it after bad wind, had about 3 inches left but 2 years later it's doing well again. I'd given up on it so didn't do anything special.

    Thanks ,that gives me hope.. I'll water it as ground is dry.
