Camellia Bush

Can anybody tell me why the flowers on my camellia bush seem to die as soon as they appear?

    Hello @carrie-cute,we have some camellias, and find the flowers go brown if the temperature drops at night, especially if they are in a sunny spot.

    theres probably a 10-15 degree Celsius difference between the warmest part of the day to the coolest part of the evening, I wouldn’t have thought that would be enough of a difference. Would that change cause it?

    Is this the first time you have seen it flower and behave like this? I have seen numerous camellias that do not do well with damp nights followed by harsh drying sun in the morning. Some are not affected, but mostly the pale flowered varieties end up looking bad very quickly.

    The other explanation is it may have been affected by lack of water last year during the summer months. This results in weaker buds that will not hold long once it's opened up. But I suspect your shrub is one that has flowers that naturally don't stay well for long and end up looking all brown and stained instead.

    it didn’t flower last year. But the flowers did the same the year before.  I couldn’t tell you further back from that as that’s the year we moved into the house.
