Help with Star Jasmine

Dano28Dano28 Posts: 18
Hi,

Can anyone help with my Star Jasmine, we bought two around the middle of March this year and planted them when we got home.

Just recently this one has been dropping quite a few leaves and I’m concerned that it’s not doing too well. Its the first time we’ve had them. It does have more healthy shoots than not but also a few that seem to have withered and died?

The other went down hill really quickly within a week, all of the shoots withered and the leaves turned brown, there’s no sign of life but the leaves all remain attached..

Many Thanks

I was in the same position last year. Planted it, didn't look healthy for a while so I gave it a seaweed feed every couple of weeks and by summer it was thriving. I think it's the shock of being planted and adapting that's all

I agree a combination of transplant shock and it looks like some leaves have been nipped by frost.
Just keep them watered especially in the summer and they'll be fine.
Not sure where you are, but SJ is not hardy in all parts of the UK.
    They thrive here in Essex

Yes - as @Pete.8 says - they aren't hardy everywhere.
Unless you live in a warmer, more sheltered part of the country, they don't survive.

It may simply be the shock though - they're usually quite cossetted while being grown , so planting in March can be tricky. Hopefully it'll come away again. You can then take the dead foliage off, or let it drop off on it's own.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks for all of the replies!

We’re in Bedfordshire, so hopefully hardy for us.

There were a few cold spells after planting but from the replies just hoping it’s shock and it’ll really get going in the summer.

    Thank you
