Improving appearance of screen

The previous owners cut back some evergreen trees and left the stumps, Ivy has since grown up and some of the trees are still growing. There's some laurel in the gaps, any suggestions on how to improve the look? The screen is important as provides privacy (roof of neighbours can be seen behind). Any suggestions would be most welcome, I'm a beginner so will have to look up plant names.

    Looks fine to me as well. You could try growing a clematis or rose to give you some flowers part of the year but you may struggle to get them established if the soil is poor.

    I agree it looks fine. 
    The ivy will cut down growth on the host, and as such, your need to prune it. 
    I bet birds  love nesting in there too.

    Thank you for the advice and opinions on appearance, how often and when should Ivy be cut back without killing it?
