Thoughts on screening

Hi all,

This lockdown really does give you time to start thinking about the garden!

So, having sat in the garden to enjoy the good weather I started thinking about some of the other elements of the garden. As you'll see, we are at a very early stage!

The first picture is a view from upstairs giving you an overview of the whole site.

The second shows the current view from dining area. The main concern is to screen the "backend" part of the garden, compost bins, potting table etc. I have at my disposal a 6 cedar posts and quite of a lot of cedar slats so I think I will make a screen across the left hand side, planting some climber (clematis?) in the main bed to soften it slightly.

The main bed is being planted with a mix of perennials and grasses:

SedumMatrona
Molinia CaeruleaMoorhexe
Deschampsia cesptisoaGoldtau
PerovskiaBlue Spire
Echinacea
White Swan

The question then is whether or not to part screen the rest of that view. Part of me would like a full height screen all the way across the garden to create a "doorway" at the end of the path but my concern then would be putting the raised beds for veg into shade (the picture is looking NE) so I'm thinking to keep it only half height.

This is a sketch of what I have been thinking (please excuse the crudeness, I'm no artist!):

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

M

The height looks about right to me. I like a slatted timber screen - but have you thought about a nice clipped hedge instead e.g beech? Would be a nice backdrop and contrast with your perennials

It's funny @WillDB  I was reading an article in The English Garden that made me think about using a beech hedge! Especially a mix of regular and copper beech. How narrow can you trim a beech hedge?

And would it be too late to plant bare root beech hedging now? (Assuming i can get any!)
