Can anyone identify this plant?

Can anyone help to identify this plant? It has mostly pale thin stems that twirl around eachother, with the odd red stem and small green leaves

Russian vine?  aka Mile-a-Minute.   An absolute menace that grows like the clappers and has no redeeming features.  I would hack it down, dig it up and get rid.

  • Thanks Obelixx. It hasn’t grown much since we got the house 2 years ago and it doesn’t get any flowers. I’m not sure but I think the middle of the bush is dead just where no leaves grow and the stems are really brittle and break easily.

Just hack off every stem at the base.   leave it a few days to wilt then pull away all the stems.   If you want it to grow, give it a good watering.  If not, dig it out.

It will be messy but therapeutic and then you can have the fun of fixing the fence and trellis and planting something lovely.   The ivy you have in there is worth keeping if you can - good for wildlife if it's allowed to grow.
