What plants to grow in my wooden planter?

Hi gardeners,

I am hoping someone can help, as I'll admit I am new to this! I have a wooden planter that's sitting empty and unused in my garage. Can anyone suggest which plants would be ideal to plant in the planter? The planter will be sitting on my decking with mostly sun throughout the day but shade in the morning. I would ideally like plants which are present year-round but open to suggestions :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Firstly line the crate with an old compost bag with a few holes for drainage.  Secure around the top and fill with compost.  I find lettuce, flowers or bulbs all grow well.  Perhaps a bit of lettuce with some marigolds petunia or small bedding plants.  Later on perhaps bulbs daffs tulips ready for spring.  Good luck.
