Compost bin

Hi I have a plastic coal bunker I'm thinking of up cycling to make a compost bin.
Should I keep it as is or drill holes in it?
It already has small holes in the bottom.
I've seen the hot Composting bins and wondered if this would get up to those temperatures. Thanks 😊

    How hot it gets, depends on the mix. You can have a cold compost heap where the work is done by worms. The really hot mixes are quite precisely put together for fast composting.

    I would be tempted to use it as is. If it needs more air flow (you get sloppy compost) add holes.

    Our plastic dalek composter works with no holes in it, composting kitchen veg scraps mostly.

    I think the "hotbox" type composting bins have a lot of insulation in the sides, so your coal bunker won't get to the same temperature unless you insulate it - a good mix of green and brown materials should make it pretty hot though.
