Black spots on leaves and black shoots...

Chaps, I have a couple of large plants that are showing black spots on the leaves and also some black shoots as per the picture below. The foliage is also not as thick as previous years. I assume this is some kind of fungal attack? Any idea what the plants are and what the best plan of attack is to bring back their previous vigor?

    Sadly not, ive tried fungus fighter to no avail. Do post back if you find out what it is and how to remove it.
