Is this a Japanese Banana tree and is it okay!?

Hi all,

first time poster here and to say I'm a novice gardener would be an exaggeration!

we have recently moved house (last November) and we were told we had to wrap a tree in the garden in a fleece and plastic sheeting to keep it alive. We blindly followed and I have now unwrapped it as the weather is so good!

the thing is, we don’t know what it is, what to do with and and most importantly whether it’s alive anymore!

can anyone help?

I’ll try and attach a picture!

many thanks,

Jack
