Hydrangea help
in Plants
Hi Everyone,
Just looking for some advice on my two hydrangeas. I'm not the best gardener, but trying to learn more and I just wondered how best to prune them? The container hydrangea especially, is becoming very unruly and spindly. I have heard a lot about old wood/new wood, but I'm really not sure?
Thanks in advance!

The one in the pot will need a prune back. Just take those long stems back to where you have other growth, so that you have a shape similar to the other one.
However, it's not going to be happy for much longer in that container. They aren't very good container plants as they need a fair bit of root room, and eventually the tub will mostly contain roots. If they can't go in the ground, they need a purpose built, raised bed of some kind to give them enough space.
Just make sure it has adequate food and water. If you can remove and refresh a couple of inches of soil, that will also help
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Especially from last year when they flowered? That will help with advice.
