Anyone know what type of plant this is?

Hi guys!

I was recently gifted this plant about a month ago, I've been watering it sporadically like I was told to, but some of the tips have started to turn black and die. Anyone have any suggestions? Am I watering it too much/too little?

Thank you!

Some kind of succulent, possibly schlumberga or easter cactus.  They will not want to be too wet. Water once a week and allow to drain well.  Then allow to dry out before watering again.

I agree, altho yours has much more elongated leaf sections than mine and mine hasn't read the manual and flowers just before Xmas usually and is at it again now.  Gorgeous.

I water mine using the dunking method - sink the whole pot in a bucket of water till no more air bubbles appear and then let it drain again before putting it back in a well lit position out of direct sun.  3 or 4 times a year it goes in the shower for a good rinse to remove all dust.

Here's some info from the RHS which will help you care for yours -
