rose replacement

peteSpeteS Posts: 966
Having recently moved one of my roses 4-5 feet, is it possible, or sensible to plant a newly bought shrub rose into that now empty spot and expect it to grow well. I've read about the perils of doing such a thing, but I'm unsure whether this applies following the removal of a healthy plant. Many thanks.

Yes, it's possible, but the risk of the rose replant disease is there, even with a healthy rose. To prevent it, exchange as much soil as practical for you - dig a hole for the rose and fill it with soil from elsewhere (with added amendments like compost or manure). Mycorrhizal fungi are also said to help.
