Carrot seed sowing advice

Planting my first ever carrots in a raised bed. Unfortunately all I can get hold of at the moment is standard multipurpose compost to fill the bed. In an ideal world I’d mix in some topsoil and horticultural sand which I can’t currently get. I do however have a bag of red sandy aggregates which is what we used to brush into patio gaps to suppress weeds. Any thoughts on whether adding this to the MPC would make a good mix for carrot sowing?
Any advice appreciated ☺️

My carrots just grow in compost without any sand.

If it’s a builders aggregate it might go a bit clumpy when wet and inhibit the carrots. Maybe try a test in a spare pot, mix with a bit of compost and water. If it turns into concrete you will know it’s not suitable!

  • Great advice thank you. I’ve just went for plain old compost so fingers crossed 🤞
  • The straight compost should be fine, I’ve grown carrots that way for the last two years in tall pots. They were delicious!!!  :)
  • Patiently waiting on germination...can’t wait to try some!!! Thanks @samanthahardy77
