Fence paint or fence treatment?? Advice needed

Hi,
I want to paint my back fence black & have been looking at either Cuprinol Ducksback matt fence & shed wood treatment or Cuprinol garden shades black ash matt wood paint.
I'm not really sure what to choose.  It is an old fence, but in good condition - once I have cleaned it down.
What are the advantages of paint vs treatment??
Help please.
Thank you!

Without looking at the cans I have I think the Ducksback works better on rougher timber which most fences are. Also probably comes in larger quantities which as you need a fair amount would be more economical as old timber does soak it up so you need at least 2 coats
The garden shades paint is for smoother timber such as garden furniture.

In our experience, the treatment type products are more of a stain, which tint the fence, but you can still see the wood colour through it.  The paint will probably create a more opaque surface, so that you will not see the wood through the paint.  Where we want a more rustic look, we use stain/treatment, but for a more crisp and contemporary look we use paint.  Both can work in the same garden, just depends on your taste.

Thank you, I think I'll go for the stain. :)

Apropos the former post, I can recommend Cuprinol Quick Drying Timber Care.  We use it in green on our bird table and clothes props, and it lasts well.
