How long does weed killer remain in compost? Can I reuse the compost?

@Dovefromabove aww I'm sorry to hear about your holiday! Hopefully for summer everything will be reopen, and I will be back to playing the usual somerset-summer-roads lottery. Will it be a tractor, or a caravan? lol XD
I hope you really enjoy Cornwall, when you get there :)

Hi @feagaer7- don't worry. Just wait for your new compost. Everything will just germinate and grow away quickly, as temps pick up.
Good luck with them, and kick that under gardener into shape  :D

This is why I have 3 water cans, 1 small green one, one green 5 Liter, both used for rain water, then the 3rd can is a red 5 Liter which I never forget is for nasty things.

I used to have the same @GemmaJF, but I lost custody of my red one after many house moves  ;)
There were watering cans here, so I have weedkiller written on one in large black letters with indelible ink. I don't use it very often though.

It's a good idea. Same happened to me as OP. OH used my good water can for weedkiller, after that I went colour coded!

@GemmaJF and @Fairygirl colour coding is a good idea. both our watering cans are green. i think my husband, knowing him is now "i will mow the lawn, the rest is your responsibility" XD he's nice like that. probably for the best, that way I know what I'm doing and where any weedkiller has been! Plus when I went back up north to visit my Mum, i left him in charge of a new Bonsai tree that I bought... in three days.. he'd killed it. lol

I managed to scrape together enough compost to plant some replacement seeds. hopefully by the time they are big enough to pot, Amazon will have brought me my new bag of compost.

Even a piece of red tape/ribbon/cloth or similar, tied round a can for weedkiller, would suffice. If you have anything red, of course.... ;)

I think you'll be fine @feagaer7, and your new compost will arrive in plenty of time. Any seed sown just now will barely have germinated in a week or so, so they won't be getting potted on for a while.  :)

@fairygirl yes I tried planting in the little compost I had left plus the compost that had the weedkiller on it that I rinsed out and already I have little leaves sticking their heads up! so it's working! yay!
thanks everyone for their comments, I really appreciate them. going to try hard not to mess up this lot of plants. XD lol
