What to plant on a very very steep slope

The bank at the bottom of my house is about a 2 metre high slope and as steep as the soil would go without falling away. It is now growing grass which has to be cut with a strimmer. It is a real nightmare. Time consuming and very difficult.
Is their anything I can plant on the slope that would not need maintenance, stop weeds growing and like the grass stop the bank from washing away. When I get older their is no way to keep up this strumming.
